Today is Martyrs' Day in Uganda, which means I had the day off of work. Aliana had other plans so I was flying solo. After sleeping in longer than I probably had any right to, I did a couple of chores around the house, like boiling a pot of water to fill some empty bottles—very exciting stuff—then went to find some breakfast. ...

Great news everybody—we managed to meet our first deadline at work! Barely. The draft of the introduction for the report was due today. Work felt a bit frantic as we raced to finish it. The wifi wasn't working upstairs (where our room is) so Aliana and I spent the morning in the library, where we could access the other wifi (which is just as slow as the usual one, by the way). It was actually nice to get out of that room for a while. ...

I feel like there weren't enough interesting things today to justify a blog post, but I still haven't missed a day and I don't want to break the streak.

This morning was the first time I've really felt sick. Last Sunday a little ill, but not too bad. I'm not sure if it was the Indian food or just my strange diet catching up with me in general, but I was up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache, which lasted through to the morning. ...

It's already fairly late so I'm going to (try to) keep this one relatively short.

At work today we made some more progress on the report. I spent most of the day starting the draft of the introduction, which is more than a little intimidating. Less than a week ago I knew next to nothing about Ugandan law and certainly nothing at all about pre-trial detention, yet today I began writing what will eventually become a significant report on the issue. ...

Yesterday evening, after I'd posted the blog, I was sitting at my kitchen table when I saw something sliding across the wall. Apparently a lizard had taken the liberty of letting himself in. Now, I know lizards are a fact of life in many places, and I'm cool with that, but that doesn't necessarily mean I want to give him free reign of my tiny apartment if there's a chance I can catch him. Besides, I think if I was a lizard, I would prefer being outside. ...
